ஷரீப தாத்தா ஏதேதோ யோசனைகளில் மூழ்கியிருந்தார். கடந்த காலத்தை நினைக்கவே சற்றுப் பயமாக இருந்தது.

‘சீ… எல்லம் அவசரமா நடந்து முடிஞ்சிட்ட… அல்லா தான் ஏன்ட புள்ளேட மனச கலங்கபடாம பாத்துகொலோணும்’ கண்களிலிருந்து இலேசாக எட்டிப் பார்த்த கண்ணீர்த் துளிகளை கைகளால் துடைத்துக் கொண்டாள்.

அவளது கண்களின் முன்பாக ஷிப்னாவின் முகம் நிழலாடியது. வட்டமுகத்தில் நீண்டிருந்த நாசி அதற்கேற்றது போல கண்ணிமைகளால் மூடியிருந்த பெரிய கண்கள் அடர்த்தியான புருவம் என அவளது அழகில் எந்தக் குறையையுமே சொல்ல முடியாது. மீண்டும் பெருமுச்சு விட்டுக் கொண்டே,

‘இந்த சீதேவிப்பட்ட புள்ளய அவன் எந்துகன் யாஅல்லா உட்டுட்டு போன? ‘

மீண்டும் தனது எண்ணப்பிரளயத்துக்குள் சிக்கித் தவித்தாள். அவளைப் பொறுத்தவரை, தனது சொல்லுக்குக் கட்டுப்பட்ட மகளின் நிலைக்கு தானே காரணம் என்ற குற்றவுணர்வு பீடித்திருந்தது. அன்றைய நினைவுகளை நிதானமாக மீட்டினாள்.

”உம்மா பொறகு கலியாணம் முடிச்சியனே! இப்ப எனக்கு இஷ்டமில்லாத மாய்… நீங்க செல்லியாள தான் முடிச்சிய… எந்தேன் உம்மா….”

ஷிப்னா எவ்வளவு கெஞ்சியும் பலன் பூச்சியமாகவே இருந்தது. முகத்தில் கடுகு பொரிய,

”ஒனக்கு இப்ப இருவத்தஞ்சு வயசாகிய பபாவல்ல நீ! அவங்க எங்கட சொந்தம் வேற…. ஒனக்கும் தெரீம் தானே அவங்கட குடும்பத்த பத்தி…”

அவள் சற்று யோசனையுடன்,

”இல்லும்மா… அவங்க எங்களோட பெரிசா பேசியோம் இல்ல… கணகெடுக்கியோமில்ல… இப்ப மட்டும் பொண் கேட்டு இங்க வந்தீச்சி?”

”நீ சும்ம அவங்கள பத்தி பேசாத… இப்பயாச்சும் வந்தே! அது போதும்”

அமைதியாகப் போனவளையே பார்த்துவிட்டு நகர்ந்தாள்.

”அல்லாவே…. நான் தோது…. அவள் அப்பவே சென்னத கேட்டீச்சோணும்….” கைகளை தலையில் அடித்துக் கொண்டு அழ ஆரம்பித்திருந்தாள் ஷரீபதாத்தா.
