ஒரு மனிதன் காலை வேலைக்கு சென்று, மாலை வேளையில் வீடு திரும்பும் போதெல்லாம் அவனுடைய மனைவியுடன் சண்டை பிடிப்பதை வழக்கமாகக் கொண்டிருந்தான். இதனை அவனுடைய மனைவி தனது சகோதரனிடம் முறையிட்டாள். அவளுடைய சகோதரன் அவளுக்கு, “ஒரு தண்ணீர் கோப்பையை கொண்டு வா” எனக் கூறினான். அவளும் அவன் சொன்னது போல தண்ணீர் கோப்பையை கொண்டு வந்து அவனிடம் கொடுத்தாள். அவன் அதனை வாங்கி சிறிது நேரம் கோப்பையினை பார்த்து கொண்டிருந்தான். பின்னர் தனது சகோதரியை நோக்கி,
உனது கணவன் வீட்டினுள் நுழையும் போது இந்த தண்ணீரை குடி அவர் தனது ஆடைகளை மாற்றி விட்டு தனது படுக்கை அறையில் ஓய்வு எடுக்கும் வரை தண்ணீர் வாயினுள்ளே இருக்க வேண்டும் எனவும் கூறினான்.
அவளும் தன் சகோதரன் கூறியது போலவே செய்தாள். கணவன் அவளுடன் சண்டை பிடிக்காததை இட்டு ஆச்சர்யம் அடைந்தாள். இந்த தண்ணீர் கோப்பை ஒரு வித சக்தி வாய்ந்தது என நினைத்தாள். மீண்டும் தன்னுடைய சகோதரனிடம் சென்று, “எனக்கு இன்னொரு தண்ணீர் கோப்பை தா அதோடு அதனுள் நீ என்ன கலந்தாய் என்பதையும் சொல்” என்றாள்.
அதற்கு அவன், “நான் அதற்குள் எதுவும் கலக்கவில்லை. வேலையில் இருந்து உனது கணவன் களைப்புடன் வீடு திரும்பும் போது உனது வாயை மூடவே அவ்வாறு செய்தேன்” எனக் கூறினான்.
