நெஞ்சம் பலமாக தாளம் போட மெதுவாக கதவைத் தட்டினாள்.
”கம் இன்…” அக்குரலைக் கேட்டவளின் உடல் லேசாக நடுங்கியது. மெதுவாக உள் நுழைந்தவளையே பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தவன்,
”மிஸ் நித்யா… எங்கண்ணா… அதான் வினோத் ஒரு முக்கிய விசயத்துக்காகவெளிய போயிருக்காரு… ஸோ… இன்னிக்கி நீ தான் இந்த வேர்க் எல்லாதயும் பாத்துகணும்னு சொன்னாரு…”
பைல் கட்டொன்றை அவள் முன் வைத்து , விசித்திரமான பார்வையை அவள் மேல் வீசினான். அவளோ முகம் வாடிப் போனாள். ஏதேதோ கனவுகள் வர நெஞ்சம் விம்மிற்று.
”மிஸ்… மிஸ்…” அந்தக் குரலும் அவளது செவிகளுக்கெட்டவில்லை.
”நித்யா…. என்ன கனவா?” இந்த வார்த்தைகளில் இவ்வுலகை தரிசித்தவள் போல விழித்தாள்.
”போதும்…. இத எடுத்து போங்க…”
குருஞ்சிரிப்பை உதிர்த்தவனை கவனியாது அந்த பைல்கட்டை எடுத்துச் சென்றாள். வெளியே வந்தவள் லட்சுமியுடனும் பேசாது வெளியே ஓடினாள். அவளைக் கவனித்தவள் போல அவள் பின்னே ஓடினாள்.
”ஹேய்…. என்னாச்சு…?” அவளைக் கட்டிப்பிடித்து அழ ஆரம்பித்தாள்.
”ஹேய்… நித்தி என்னாச்சு.. சொல்லுடி…?”
”அவரு வெளியே போயிட்டாராம்டி… போதாத்துகு இந்த பைல்வேர்க் கூட எனக்கு செய்ய சொல்லிட்டு…”
அழுதவளை நெஞ்சோடு அணைத்து,
”ஹேய்… இதுக்கா அழுவுற சரி… இன்னொரு நாளேக்கி கூட்டி போவாரு என்ன அவசரமோ? விடு…”
அவளது முதுகைத்தட்டிக் கொடுத்து உள்ளே அழைத்துச் சென்றாள். சற்று நேரம் அவள் தனது அலுவல்களில் மூழ்கியிருந்தாள்யாரோ தோளைத் தொடவும் பதறிப் போனாள்.
”ஹேய்…. நான் தான்டி… அப்பாக்கு சொகமில்லாம ஆச்சாம்டி… நா போயி வாரன்… நீ கவனமா போ…”
லட்சுமி பதற்றத்துடன் கூறிச் சென்றாள். அவள் செல்வதையே கவலையுடன் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தவள் ஏதோ ஞாபகம் வந்தது போல சுற்றுமுற்றும் பார்த்தாள். அவள் இருக்கும் பகுதியில் வெகு சிலரே இருந்தனர். நேரம் ஐந்து மணியை காட்டியது. லேசாக மேல் சிலிர்க்க,
‘சீ….. இந்த வேல இன்னும் முடியலயே… லட்சுமியும் இல்ல…. அவசரமாக முடிக்கணும்’
மனதால் எண்ணியவள் மீண்டும் அவளது வேலையில் மூழ்கினாள். இருபது நிமிடங்கள் கடந்திருக்கும். அப்போது யாரதோ காலடிச் சத்தம் அவளை நெருங்கியது.
