ECONOMYNEXT – The Colombo Stock Exchange closed up on Monday, data on its site showed.

The broader All Share Index closed up 1.06 percent, or 124.53 points, at 11,920; while the S&P SL20 Index closed up 1.79 percent, or 62.17 points, at 3,543.

Turnover was at 3.2 billion.

“A lot of high net worth and corporates are getting involved expecting a successful completion of ISB negotiations,” market participants said.

“The second round of ISB talks is affecting banks positively; bluechips are also seeing activity.”

Sampath Bank Plc saw the most active trade volume contributing Rs675mn to the day’s turnover; the share closed up at 80.90.

Hemas Holdings Plc also increased activity (Rs191mn) and the share closed up at 83.00.

Other major contributors to the Index included Commercial Bank of Ceylon, up at 110.00, National Development Bank Plc, up at 76.70, Browns Investments Plc, up at 5.50, and Lanka IOC Plc, up at 126.00. (Colombo/Apr8/2024)
