இலங்கையின் தென்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள பள்ளிவாசல் நாட்டில் பல பாகங்களிலும் வாழும் மக்களை ஒன்றிணைக்கும் இடமாக இருக்கின்றது. சிங்களவர்கள், இந்துக்கள் மற்றும் முஸ்லிம்கள் ஆகிய அனைவரும் அங்கு சென்றால் இறை அருள்கிடைக்கும் என்று நம்புகின்றனர்.
புண்யவதி என்ற பெண் குறிப்பிடுகையில் அவளுக்கு சீதனமாக வழங்கப்பட்ட நகைகள் காணாமல் போனமை பற்றி விபரித்தாள். அதுபற்றி அவள் என்னிடம் கூறுகையில் வீட்டில் பாதுகாப்பாக வைத்திருந்த நகைகள் ஒருநாள் மாயமாக மறைந்து விட்டதாகவும் எவ்வளவு தேடிப்பார்த்தும் அதனை கண்டு பிடிக்க முடியவில்லை என்றும் கூறினாள்.
அந்த நகைகள் வீட்டில் எங்காவது இருக்கும் என்பதற்கான அடையாளமே இருக்கவில்லை. “நாங்கள் வீட்டில் எல்லா மூலை முடுக்குகளிலும் தேடினோம். ஆனால் இருக்கவில்லை” என்று புண்யவதி விளக்கினாள்.
பின்னர் அவளது குடும்பத்தினர் ஒரு ஜோதிடரிடம் சென்று அதுபற்றி கூறினர். ஆனாலும் அவராலும் அதனைக் கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியவில்லை.
பின்னர் கொடபிடிய ஜூம்ஆப் பள்ளிவாசலுக்கு போய் அங்கு முறையிட்டு பிரார்த்தனை செய்தால் காணாமல் போனவைகள் கிடைப்பதாகவும் எங்களுக்கு அறிமுகமான ஒருவர் கூறினார் என்றும் அந்த பெண் கூறினாள். “அதன்படி நாங்கள் அங்கு சென்று முறையிட்ட போது அவர்கள் எங்களுக்கு உதவி செய்தார்கள். என்ன ஆச்சரியம். காணாமல் போன எங்களது நகைகள் மீண்டும் கிடைத்துவிட்டன. அதுமட்டுமல்லாது எங்களது நகைகளை எடுத்தவர்களுக்கு தண்டனையும் கிடைத்தது. இறைவனுக்கே நன்றி” என்று அந்த பெண் கூறினாள்.
தென் பகுதியான மாத்தறையில் அகுரஸ்ஸ, கொடபிடியவில் அமைந்துள்ள பள்ளிவாசலுக்கு தினமும் நூற்றுக்கணக்கான மக்கள் வருகின்றார்கள். அங்கு அற்புத சக்தி இருப்பதாக அவர்கள் நம்புகின்றனர். அதன்படி காணாமல் போனவைகளைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கும் மற்றும் பிரச்சினைகளைத் தீர்க்கும் சக்தி இருக்கின்றது. குறிப்பாக பௌத்தர்களும் இந்துக்களும் இவ்வாறான நாட்டங்களின் அடிப்படையில் தேவைகளை நிறைவேற்றிக்கொள்ள பௌத்த ஆலயங்களுக்கும் கோவில்களுக்கும் செல்வது வழக்கமாகும். ஆனாலும் இஸ்லாமியர்கள் வணங்கும் தலமான பள்ளிவாசல்களுக்கு இவ்வாறான தேவைகளுக்காக செல்வதை நாம் அறிந்ததில்லை. ஆனாலும் அதிகமான உள்ளுர் மக்கள் இந்த கொடபிடிய ஜூம்ஆப் பள்ளிவாசலானது ஒரு முக்கியமான இன நல்லிணக்கத்திற்கான புனித தலம் என்று கருதுகின்றனர்.

“இங்கு வரும் ஏராளமான மக்கள் அவர்களது துயரங்களுக்கு உதவி செய்ய வேண்டும் என்ற எதிர்பார்ப்புடன் வருகின்றனர்” பள்ளிவாசலில் பொறுப்பாக இருக்கின்ற மௌலவி மவ்சூம் தெரிவிக்கின்றார். “பௌத்தர்கள், தமிழர்கள் மற்றும் முஸ்லிம்கள் என்று வேறுபாடின்றி எல்லோரும் வருகின்றனர். நாம் அவர்களது பிரச்சினைகளை அல்லாஹ்விடம் சமர்ப்பித்து அவர்களுக்காக பிரார்த்திக்கின்றோம். அதன் ஊடாக தீர்வு கிடைக்கின்றது. அவர்களது எதிர்பார்ப்பு நிறைவேறுகின்றது. அதன் காரணமாகவே அவர்கள் இங்கு வருகின்றார்கள். அத்துடன் அவர்களுக்காக எல்லா சேவைகளையும் நாம் இலவசமாகவே வழங்குகின்றோம்” என்றும் மௌலவி கூறுகின்றார்.
